For a stuffed felt deer or similar animal find a good side view and trace the outline. Enlarge or reduce on a photocopier if necessary. Use as pattern to cut out two pieces. Then draw a slightly downcurved line across the middle of the body and cut out two more pieces with this lower half of the body and two legs. Sew the legs of the full and partial pieces together using stab stitch and stuffing as you go along if it is a small figure. Sew all the other outside edges together then lightly stuff through the belly and stitch closed. Add beads for eyes and decorate as wished.

Stained glass patterns and tile mosacs make great patterns and are readily available. I like repititious patterns where a few patterns of individual shapes fit together to make a larger pattern. Also quilt patterns are interesting.

You can always just print a picture that you like and draw an outline around it. I have done this for felt applique projects. If you will be using it more than once, transfer it to thin cardboard.
