The daylily is sometimes referred to as the perfect perennial because it is:
Able to survive with very little care in a wide range of climates.
Suitable for all types of landscapes.
Drought resistant and almost disease and insect free.
Adaptable to various soil and light conditions.

I agree - I have daylilies in a bed with an azalea and they do just fine. What a great plant - it accommodates to everything, grows easily, and really gives a great mid summer appearance.

We have an old barn on our property and I am working on sprucing up the perimeter. The soil is very questionable - whenever I dig I find old car parts, cans & glass - I would have to bring in a backhoe to really clean it up. I am going to try daylilies around the barn to save myself the work of cleaning the soil big time. I think they will look great!

I've never heard of dayliles being picky about soil.....except they can't swim......so drainage is important. Even the Hemerocallis Society home page doesn't mention soil preference.
