With over 230 restaurants conveniently located throughout the Middle East, among which 173 are in the GCC, McDonald's has established itself as the region's favourite place to eat.The first restaurant in the region was opened in Riyadh, on December 8th 1993 then Jeddah on January 19th 1994; Oman’s first restaurant was inaugurated in March 1994, and Kuwait in June 1994, followed by Bahrain on December 15th 1994 and the UAE on December 22nd 1994, then Qatar in December 1995. The restaurants, which started operations in the Arab countries in December 1993 with the opening of the first branch in Saudi Arabia, are independently owned and operated by local partners from each individual market. All partners in the Middle East are the 100% owners of their business as developmental licensees. In other words McDonald's Corporation has no ownership over the real estate of the restaurants, nor the equipment used in the daily operations. This has allowed McDonald's to benefit from its global experience, and to apply it locally to the benefit of its customers.
As with all McDonald's restaurants worldwide, Quality, Service, Cleanliness and Value are the foundation of McDonald's success in the Middle East. In addition, and in order for the local partners to adapt McDonald's worldwide expertise to the environments where their restaurants are operating, they have ensured that all their meat products are 100% pure Halal beef. Moreover, McDonald's in the Middle East uses 100% vegetable oil for all its range of fried products.
The principal of giving back to the community has been part of McDonald's culture for nearly 50 years. In the Middle East, McDonald's has been playing an active role in the community since the day it started its operations.
80% of McDonald's supplies are of local origin, helping the local suppliers in improving their production and quality standards. Since the day McDonald's was introduced in the region, some suppliers have even doubled their production.
McDonald's Middle East employs several thousands of people from the region, whether in operations, management, or in marketing, offering them the chance to learn from the most successful quick service restaurants in the world and from the most powerful brands ever created.
McDonald's has also been an active member of the community through ongoing community activities and contributions with schools, charities, and children organizations. McDonald's in the Middle East has also taken part in the first-ever worldwide children fundraiser on November 20th 2002, as a celebration of the World Children's Day.
