1. Against Iraqi request? Says who? Their government wants us there and bashes the Democrats' plan. The largest survey conducted in Iraq to date shows they want us out for sure, but not yet. So what are you talking about? We're there under UN mandate as well.
2. We have a permanent presence almost everywhere in the world and when we try to leave, the countries' governments complain - see e.g. two years ago when we tried to close bases in Europe and Asia.
Westhill doesn't seem to understand that Bush's executive powers stem from the 9/11 authorization, not the Iraq war.
About this oil thing - where the hell is it? India and China are the ones who were given first dibbs to Iraq's oil and we don't even control it. People need to turn off F911, it's years old and been debunked 100 times. Even liberals from Canada have shown (07 documentary) that Moore was a disingenious tool

Open ended is a relative term. Each year, the Government of Iraq submits a request for Coalition Forces to remain in Iraq.
At any time, the GoI can tell us to go home. That's not our call but that of the Iraqi Government.
They DO want us here. The only ones who don't are the Sadrists and Al Qaida.

I am sure that Bush is not the only American who can see the wisdom of having a post in the Middle East.
I guess some Americans prefer to keep going back. But I'm not one of them.
When it comes to US policy, only what the US wants matters. When it comes to world opinion, that's another story. But from every indicator I have seen, we are not the only ones who want us there.

We'll be in Iraq until we've sucked every drop of OIL from that nation's sands. That's why we're building the world's largest embassy on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad overlooking the 'new' Iraqi puppet government installed by the Bush administration -RKO- 05/02/07

The fanatic muslim terrorists must be taught the error of their ways.
The terrorists must be neutralized in some way.
The Iraqi people do not want the terrorists in Iraq.
The Afghans do not want the taliban in Afghanistan.
I do not want taliban, alqueda, hezbollah or other terrorists in the U S A.
If you don't agree with what I do not want, You are my enemy.
It really is that simple. Choose a side. It is a real global war. Not a political exercise. I don't care who is in charge as long as they agree with me. I don't want terrorists in the USA."I don't want terrorists to establish a base of operations in Iraq, Afghanistan or any other place on this planet". If you don't agree with this statement, you are my enemy. The President wants a conclusion to the war on terror. He doesn't want to win a popularity contest. He wants to win a war that the Democrats want to loose. Again, It really is that simple. Democrats apparently love terrorists, they are doing everything in their power to protect them.

Apparently...America is the SUPER Power so yes, according to the powers that be...currently..America/Bush wants what HE wants . His advisors want to make more $$ so the war goes on and on and on. He's never (strong word) been open to what the people want, what the people see and hear. When I hear my friends family members(who are in Iraq) talk about what's actually happening in Iraq, I cringe. HOWEVER..our soldiers over there are very brave and deserve our total support. I just do not think the US has the abilitiy to solve THEIR problems and issues. It's a morality issue we're fighting.. It's a turmoiled region with YEARS of aggression and disruption. They are a different people. It's how it is and it's JUST NOT WORKING!GW isn't an effective President.

We have never planned to leave Iraq ever. Thats why there is no exit strategy. We are building bases for a permanent presence in the middle east. It has been the plan from day one.
What he really wants is for the Iraqies to bend over and accept our puppet government pass the oil bill so his buddies can rape the country of its oil resources.
Even though he says he doesn't care how history judges him.
I would bet in his little mind he thought we were going to go over there and create democracy and he would be a hero.
This must really eat at him. I sure hope it does.

I am not sure why the Dems are pushing for legislation to end the war. I think their best bet would be to give Bush every penny he wants and let public sentiment against the war continue to build. By 2008, they would get the White House back, as people will be completely fed up by then. With a Dem. president and Congress, the war would end in '09 anyways.

If we get out of Iraq the nation will turn to other subjects such as impeachment, health care, improving veterans hospitals, education reform, investigating more corruption, and so forth. By staying in Iraq he believes he can divert the country's attention away from real issues so he won't have to deal with them and his true self won't be revealed. Another delusion of GWB.

So sufficient time is given to actually finish it! I don't recall hearing the enemy say they would stop terrorizing the world on a certain date...
