My boyfriend died almost 2 years ago. When you lose someone you love so much, you feel like your heart is going to explode. But when they put their ashes in a small container and hand them to you, your head feels like it will explode. Sounds strange, but I just couldn't wrap my head around the fact that it was all that was left. I think it's better if your loved ones never actually handle the ashes, it's too much.

Yes. I have his ashes (and a few others) in wooden boxes with their names painted on them and my favorite nicknames for them on top of my buffet in the center of my house. Every once in a while, I stop to acknowledge them. I've made a little memorial area there with some pretties, but honestly I think having them with me is enough. I feel satisfied.

I have the ashes of my wife at home. Her wish was that she be cremated and I keep the ashes until I die. She wanted her ashes buried with me.

My sister has her husband's ashes. He wanted them thrown off the brige into the lake. She can't get sober enough to get to the bridge. But of course it has only been 2 years.
