A single grass seed will initially yield a single blade of grass. However, after a few weeks, this blade of grass will become a clump, and then possibly spread further through, "creeping," and re-seeding.

Unless you live in the desert, why dont you just go outside and take one from your neighbors lawn. I am sure he wont mind. If you do live in the desert, take the drive someplace where they do have grass and take a handful for the ride.
