The pain you feel during ovulation is known as "mittelschmerz". I get it every month, too. I don't think you can tell if the egg has already been released or not. The pain can occur just before, during or right after ovulation.
Sperm are thought to retain fertilizing capability for up to 48 hours once they have entered the female genital tract, but it's possible their lifespan is even longer.

Sperm can live in a woman's body up to 5 days. I also feel when I am ovulating, now I don't know the medical terms, but when the egg leaves the ovary it breaks through a layer of skin and then enters the fallopian tube, some women can feel the break of skin (don't believe me, talk to your OB about it).

I have never felt it when ovulation occurs, but I've always heard sperm can live up to 72 hours and so can the egg. So you should be fertile from 3 days before to 3 days after you ovulate.

It depends, they have a life span, like people.
If you're feeling the pain, that means you either have just ovulated or will release an egg in the next 6-8 hours. I hope that helps!!

If you're having quick sharp pains when you ovulate it means you are having issues with cysts. What you are feeling is not your egg being released but your cyst bursting. Go see a doc. They could be harmless, but they could also be problematic.

LOL, I see where your confusion is. Those globs are not eggs, but that is called "egg white cervical mucus", because it's color and consistency resembles that of egg whites. The eggs are impossibly small to see. The "gelly" cervical mucus you see is deigned to facilitate sex and protect sperm from the acidic environment of the vagina, and also give them something to swim in to get up there. Cervical mucus is a huge turn on for guys, I think instictually so.
