For a minute there I thought I was reading my own question. My baby has the same problem and I also can't get to the doctor til may 8th. Thats funny. Anyway, I was told by a friend that had the same issue a couple years ago with her baby and she said sometimes the eye drops that the hospital gives them at birth, doesn't work all the way. Obviously if we are experiencing the same thing with only one eye, I would think it is normal. I am confident it will go away. Good luck.

I don't think it's normal, my daughter had "goop" in her eyes when she was little but not a lot. If they can't see your son until the 8th why don't you call them and ask them what you should be doing until then. I had a problem like that with my eyes last year where I just had a lot of "goop" in just one eye and I asked the pharmacy what I can get to help it and they told me to use this ointment for my eye, I had to put it over top of my eye. Since I'm an adult though I would recommend you to use it on your son, but it helped me and it was gone within a few days.

I think it is semi-normal, but it all depends on what color the eye goop is? If it is very green or brown then it may be a sign of an eye infection, no biggie they will give you antibiotic drops, if it is yellow or clear, your baby probably has clogged tear ducts. My son had this problem for months, you have to gently wipe the eyes with a warm facecloth and the gently massage the tear tuct right in the corner of the eye. And buy lots of baby facecloths!

No, that's not normal and I'm surprised your doctor would not want to see him sooner. Call them again and describe his symptoms. Maybe they can prescribe something without seeing him. My son had the same problem and it turned out that it was a blocked tear duct, which is very common in the initial weeks. If his eye is not red/pink, then it is probably not conjunctivitis. But, you do need an eye ointment/antibiotic for it. So, call you doc right away!! Best wishes!

Yes, it is normal. The same thing happened to my baby in his first month. Just clean it twice a day with a cotton ball and warm water and soon it will be all gone. Also, sometimes when your baby is born, the tear ducts aren't fully developed so their eyes leak a lot and that makes eye boogers. Don't worry. You should buy the book "The First Years"; it answers all the questions you worry about as a new mom. Good luck.

I don't know if it's normal or not, but my son had a lot of eye goop in only one eye also until about a month old. He turned out fine.

No it isn't normal. If you are breastfeeding start putting breastmilk into the eye 3 or more times a day, if that doesn't start making it better in 48 hours get to a doctor. Otherwise it is important to get to a doctor ASAP. Even a walk in clinic. In the meantime you can use saline drops if breastmilk is not available.
Eye infection in a newborn is serious.

No, it is not noraml to have excessive eye goop. You should try and get into the doctors sooner. Or you could go to an emergency room at a hospital.

The baby needs to be seen ASAP. Could be several different types of eye infection which needs to be treated with drops.
You call the doctor back and make a sick visit for your baby and if you can't get in go to er.
Good Luck

When the nusrse gave me the run down before I left the hospital with my daughter, she told me that the tears ducts are still developing and to watch they don't get clogged or infected. That's why when you bathe them you wipe from inside the ey to the outside corner gently. You should make an appt. with a doctor just to make sure it isn't infected.
