Apologize and find a replacement. Look on eBay, SamuelFrench.com, find a copy online and print it out (check www.script-o-rama.com), then move on with things.

Or do you mean an original script the student wrote? If so, offer extra credit for another copy :-) I would say a sincere apology up front and a bit of extra mentoring should do it. That should be the end of it. Don't let the student milk it.

Face the music. Apologize to the student and ask if he student has any backup copy. Honestly, you can't do much unless there's a miracle that you found the lost one. Good luck!
