GO TANKLESS!!!

If you're upgrading there is no excuse (well, other than the possible electrical upgrade required) to not go tankless. By the end of the first year you will have saved almost as much as you paid for the new heater.

Plus, if you're like me, you really appreicate the idea of your wife being able to take a four hour shower and you still have hot water left to take your luxouriously long 25 minute shower yourself. ;-p

Many of the different brands of heaters are built by the same company. Check the yellow energy tag on the side of the unit. This will give you info on it's efficiency. Read the warrany (if included in the purchase) and find out what is covered. Most are one year parts and labor and the remainder is parts only and are decreased each year. Make sure you can get parts and service on any unit you buy. If you go tankless, check with Plumbers in your area to see who works on them. Many Plumbers do not do service work on them, only install. If you have hard water or mineral deposits, stay away from tankless. Make sure what the output on the unit you buy is. The cost of the unit and the electrical necessities may be more than you want to invest in.
