I don't know why they do the things they do.
First answerer is from the UK, not the US. And I would like someone to please tell me how the actions of the people in Africa can possibly be attributed to the US?
Stop using Africa as a smoke-screen to oppose the war on terror. If we went to Darfur you'd be screaming about that.

Sadly, extreme poverty coupled with poor politics has left an entire continent in sad shape. This goes back hundreds of years, back to tribal rivalries and mismanagement by colonial powers of England, Portugal, Spain and France.
The imposition of Western government on Africans was less than lasting or impressive.
However, you could ask the same question of people all over the world who have killed and shamed and mutilated and murdered for far less than diamonds.
If Westerners are so much more advanced, why the Holocaust, why American destruction of Native Americans, or Sunni and Shiia, or...well you get the idea.

If you saw the movie Blood Diamonds last night, you would have noticed that the money to finance the war came from the wealthy diamond merchants in London and New York. There's even a segment in the movie that shows just how the price of diamonds is maintained artificially high by diamond trading firms in Europe and America.
Let's get it clear, Ace, there is as much dirty American and European money as there are Blood Diamonds.

Greed will make anyone do atrocious things to his neighbor
no matter what his creed or color. If you hadn't noticed the
people of Iraq didn't ask for the invasion of their country
but it happened anyway and the Lie that was given to
the American People was that it was to free them, stop terrorism and to bring Democracy...well if that's true then why was there such a rush to get Halliburton (An Oil-Drilling Company) and a host of other big-wigs into Iraq to suck the Country dry while the people are still in shambles...I'll tell you
why.....pure unadulterated GREED

I have never seen "Blood Diamond", but when you ask how Africans can do such things to their own people, I have to say that the ethnic cleansing and human rights abuses of Africans against other Africans are really no different from those committed by Europeans against other Europeans. The abuses committed by Idi Amin and those in Darfur are good examples.

Well think of it this way : As long as companies keep paying these Africans for their resources, they'll continue to kill each other.
Think about how companies exploit the political situations in Africa in order to obtain these resources.
You can't just blame the Africans, but you also need to look at the systems that motivates them to commit these acts.

Congratz you missed the point.
Africa can be reformed through education by changing their mentality and reducing the exploitation of the people for the gain of the western world.
As if European nations aren't guilty of the same types of crimes. You should watch the movie again and find out who brought the idea of amputations to Africa.

Africa has been hostile forever, they are third world countries that are accostomed to their way and it is difficult to change that. youd have much difficulty trying to go to Africa because of the hostility most of the countries in Africa arent accessable from this country. Another movie you could watch that i havnt seen but would be more factual for you is the last king of scotland. i know its about Ida Amine who was the ruler of Uganda, thatll give you a look at real Africa.

I blame PEOPLE, not just one group. Human history is full of many examples.
I have not seen the movie. I can only imagine what's in it.
Cultures do differ on what is acceptable. Education is the key to changing behavior.
We are very lucky to live in the heart of Western civilization. But again one need only scratch the surface of most any culture to find barbarism, past or present.

I saw that movie whenever it first came out and honestly I was shocked to see how people would treat other people in their communtiy and to sit there and teach young children how to kill innocent people. It is just unreal that here in America we take advantage of diamonds the way we do not knowing though some of us do know that innocent lives are being killed over our luxury and pettiness.
