Yes it does influence the mind, some music can help you remember good times and bad times. It can inspire, or just simply drive you nuts especially if you are a senior citizen like me.

Well if you need my opinion, then it DOES influence
And a great lot at that!
Music has the ability to inspire someone, give hope to the grief stricken, make happy moments happier, even bring tears while you go back in time remembering old times...
In My life, I owe a LOT to music.
In fact I would say that I have learned half my lessons of life while listening to music!!!

The "Mozart effect" phenomenon was first publicized in 1993. It is based on the principle observation that study participants improved their scores on spatial-temporal tests after listening to one of Mozart's piano sonatas. Spatial-temporal agility is an important guide to mathematical ability and aptitude. That original study has prompted further research to explore the relationship between music, intelligence, and learning.
Presently many parents follow the guidance of Julie Clark, founder and developer of the Baby Einstein CDs. Julie Clark noticed that her baby responded to classical music. Personally my wife and I repetitively played the Baby Einstein CDs for our son when he was an infant. He seems to have developed cognitively to a great degree and is doing excellent work in elementary school.
