The combustion engine comes to mind. It was the impetus for the Industrial Revolution, took us from sailing ships to ironclad ships to rockets that fly into outer space. We have automobiles, trains, water pumps, heating and a/c systems that all came out of that original technology. We would not have been able to move from an agrarian society if we didn't have tractors and other mechanized tools to save the work of many men. But we did. Once we did, we had the available, cheap (read: immigrant) labor pool that was available to work in the factories, create inexpensive goods, and then we had the rail system with its steam locamotives that were able to quickly and inexpensively transport the goods all over the country, and even into other countries, to fuel the growth of our country and our economy.

In a recent lecture called " Reith Lectures ", the results of a survey of a number of people concerning the subject of the most signifigant invention or advancement in technology, the survey said the leader was " the Bicycle " with 59.4% of the vote. As a matter of interest, the Transistor was next with 7.8% and the Communications Satellite was last with 1.1% of the vote. These were things since 1800. My personal choice is the Transistor invented by a man named Lilienfield in 1927, with which he invented "amplifiers", "radios", etc. The Internet only got 4% of the vote, and these ones surveyed were very intelligent , scientific people. The Internal Combustion Engine got 3.4%. The Computer, 6.3% !! Some people say the " Polymerase Chain Reaction" which gave us the ability to "photocopy" DNA, which resulted in DNA fingerprinting, human genome experiments, and DNA Diagnostics. And of course, the Telephone because of its tremendous impact on communications.
I got this from " BBC-Radio 4- You And Yours " documentary. I put it all in my own words, because the actual theseis was long & time consuming. I picked out the most important ones for you to do some research on. Good luck !!!

generally journey yet, the capture in it fairly is getting the prospect to artwork on the journey. additionally it relies upon on the activity, some jobs are get right of entry to point the place you artwork your way up, others do no longer enable everybody to get throughout the door with out a minimum of a certificates. or maybe once you do get the activity, depending on what that's, you're able to would desire to maintain doing little courses. So i might say journey is significant first and best, yet, you could in basic terms bypass so some distance with it. whether it is an identical with college ranges, some human beings graduate and then will desire to do voluntary artwork journey until they are good sufficient to be paid!

You may get a laundry list of suggestions.
The effects of electricity, radio, the telephone, television and the internal combustion engine all need to be strongly considered.
200 years means about 1800 to the present.
So the early portable printing press, photography, steam-powered railroads and steamships etc., the telegraph,
and agricultural plow improvements deserve consideration.
over that time period I would vote for steam power--which drove paddle-wheel steamers, railroad trains and ocean liners, as well as the tea kettle and early automobiles.

For me it is one of a possible two:
1. steam engine: led to the start of the industrial revolution.
2. transistor: It's invention in the early 40's led to the progression which resulted in the creation and use of computers.

Electricity (production of and application) I would say changed the world the most.
