I am having trouble with growing herbs.. is there a trick? I use Jiffy greenhouse trays to plant my seeds and everything else comes up beautifully in them, but anytime I do herbs they don't take. I've tried mint and lavender and nothing has happened. Am I giving up on them too soon or should I adjust the temp or what? Any help would be great.

I have my herb garden just outside the door. I made an area with soil amendment about 3" deep and planted seeds. Kept it moist and have had no problems. The nice thing about the soil amendment is that at the end of the season, it is easy to pull the old plants. Also keeps weeds down better and what weeds do grow can be pulled with no effort.

wow, i donrt know. im trying my hand for the 1st time at an herb garden but i bought established starter plants at the nursery. I have mine planted in a bed alongside my front porch facing the east so it gets morning sun, but is covered by my porch roof. So far so good, I have sage, thyme, mint, chives, chamomile, and a few others i forget now...

Herb seeds are best sown at the site as a rule...in full sun usually. I would buy seedlings and try with them.

well did you try dampening the soil? there isn't a trick. herbs just need damp soil, sunlight, and fertile soil. try watering them and puttting them in a window sill. good luck!
