You don't mention whether you mean physical brawls or verbal spats (but it doesn't really matter since the answer would be the same for either).

As I see it, there is one reason why ANYONE (girls, boys. men. women - just PEOPLE in general) fights. That is simply the fact that, like electricity, human behavior tends to take the path of least resistance.
What I mean by that is: that it's easier to give in to a destructive impulse than it is to stop and think about it, then decide whether to resist it or go with it.
As I explained in my answer to another question several weeks ago, there is a progression of events involved in ANY action (unless one is talking about autistic tics and/or other kinds of involuntary motions).
!. You conceive the idea to do or say something
2. You make the decision to do or say it
3. You send that information to whatever muscles will be involved (in the case of saying something, that would be the vocal chords)
4. You activate those muscles and actually, physically, COMMIT the action

At ANY point in this progression, the final action can be modified or completely aborted. In the case of an impulse to say or do something hurtful, it definitely SHOULD be modified or aborted, but all TOO OFTEN, it isn't.

Anyway, why focus on "GIRLS" fighting? What about guys and the old-fashioned barroom brawls? Women may have been what they fought over sometimes, but I doubt that very many of them involved a woman starting them by throwing the first punch.
My boyfriend/fiance talks about getting into a lot of such fights in his younger years. He says that every time he got into a fight it was because (in his OWN words) "My alligator mouth overloaded my canary-bird brain."

Yep, the "path of least resistance".

In your finest soliloquy, explain why PEOPLE fight!
Men fight too, over things just as silly. Races fight races, religions fight religions. Why single out girls?
We are a contentious, greedy species with an apparently inborn need to control and direct the actions of others. I wish it weren't so.

i used to fight with my sister because she's an ignorant loudmouth and was better at hurling insults than actually fixing anything.

i dont think you can generalize in any way about a specific group of people. that kind of thinking is narrow and dangerous.

well, basically, girls fight cause they are more emotional, sensitive to stuff..they see things more then it just IS.unlike boys, girls thinks deep down.not just the surface..that's why, they tend to feel more then guys...also,beauty is a common "challenge" amoung girls..(not me) and well, nail polish shape up their nails..anyways girls are just girls..therefore,they tend to fight easily =)
