The database is really just a back end repository for your data and should be able to store a BLOB (Binary Large OBject) of the fingerprint data. I have only worked with Oracle for storing BLOBs but I believe MS SQL Server can handle them as well. I'm not sure about MS Access handling them but wouldn't be surprised. Do you have a biometric scanner and software already in mind? Ideally the application from your scanner will handle all the matching for identity and hopefully it will work with the database you have. If they use an internal database, likely you can link the two (ODBC maybe???) and customize the application a bit.

If you buy Fingerprint Scanner, usually they will give you their fingerprint software with their SDK.
I have a Fingerprint Scanner (with application) which use ms access as their database.
