My fiance and I were just given a 24' above ground pool. Our land is mostly flat. There is a small decline in the yard. We are unsure of the best way to excavate the land to put up the pool. Most pool places will not install because it is not a pool we bought from them. If you have any suggestions....

pick out the place where you want to install the pool. take a piece of string a little longer than 12 feet long and tie one end to a nail or spike. put the spike in the ground in the center of th area where you have chosen to put the pool. stretch out the string and go around in a circle. I used white spray paint to make my circle. now you will have to take up the sod in that area then take the dirt down until it is level. I used a long 2x4 and placed a level on the 2x4 to check it. once you have it level you will need to spread out a layer of sand about 2 or 3 inches deep. this keeps you from getting a hole in the bottom of the liner. now put the pool together on top of the sand.

Talk with the salesmen at the pool stores. Many of them know the installers and will give you a number to call. They usually get a kickback for referring customers. I did this when I had my pool installed and it was cheaper also.
