Does this indicate that my suspicions are correct? Am I being unreasonable in wanting to know the truth? Can a court order be issued to make her get the dna test done?

He asked me who I thought this child resembled only a couple of years ago, I didn't think too much of it at the time, then he asked our daughter, 22, if she would mind if she discovered she had a half-brother, which he is now denying, calling our daughter a liar. I am not with him any longer, my husband. He is actually in a relationship with this woman, the mother of the disputed child, but says the relationship started only recently, and emphatically denies being the father. I don't know who/what to believe.

Contact the Maury Povich show and see if you can get yourselves invited to the show. Her desire to be a celebrity will outweigh her desire for secrecy and all will be revealed on national television before a live audience.

You are not a parent to the child and don't have any legal claim or rights to it. It is up to your husband to pursue whether or not the child is his. Has he admitted to cheating with your friend during the time frame she turned up pregnant?
Sorry - unless your husband wants to know, there isn't anything you can do. I can't blame her for saying no as I wouldn't subject my child to a DNA test just to satisfy someone's curiousity. Now, if it was to get child support that would be something else.
Talk to your husband and leave the kid alone.

How can anybody ask if it will make a difference? Ridiculous! Yes, a court order can be issued, but it has to come from your husband. You are not being unreasonable and you should certainly encourage your husband to file for paternity of the child. I admire you for having the courage to pursue this.

It doesn't indicate anything other than you are totally insecure about your relationship. If you do not trust your partner then your relationship is doomed to failure. without trust a relationship has nothing. You cannot demand a court order or a dna test. You have absolutely no right to demand either as you are not a parent to the child.

You could try to petition the court saying you belive your husband was unfaithful and that the child is his and you want a DNA test done to find out. They may grant that, alot of times they will. No it doesn't defnietly mean that, she may refuse because she's offended that you asked her that, or you may be right. I would suggest you try to get a court ordered DNA test if you really wnat to know.

If I was in your friends shoes I would not allow a test regardless of the reason. it sounds unreasonable to me. If he is / has cheated there are other ways to find out. Besides, if she thought it was his, she would be after him for child support and the DNA test would prove it for her.
What happens when the test proves he is not the father? Then you lose your friend and your husband, due to your mistrust.

Before the child was born, did you have reason to believe that your husband was cheating on you with her? If there were previous doubts or if you know for sure that they had an affair, then you have the right to know. Legally? I'm not sure. I'd strongly recommend talking to a lawyer. Good luck!
P.S.- Have you talked with your husband about this?

A court order can be issued but only if you have enough supporting documentation (evidence) to indicate that the child may be his. My suggestion....leave this alone...you may damage the childs well being...and afterall...the CHILD is most important....not what u think ( a neighbor)

yes a court order can be done if your husband requests it. Not you. Unless you are planning on divorcing him then in the divorce ask for a DNA test to be done.

How awkward! I'm not sure what the best thing to do is...it comes down to what you can stand, what you can tolerate. If it truly bothers you, it might be best to move on and end the marriage. If you can, talk to your husband but know it will be stressful and not an easy road and he might not admit a thing. Good luck.

Does your husband say it's his or is it just you that thinks so? She might already know that it is your husband's child why else would she refuse the test. Especially if you are the one paying for the test.
