The California State assembly is considering a ban on the use of the words.. . . 'Mom and Dad' in text books . Proponents say that it 'threatens' gay people and their lifestyle . I believe the State Senator who is supporting this is a woman named Kiehl(not sure on the name) and it's Sb 777 . Also they want students to be able to use whatever bathrooms they feel describe them best . In other words, gender discrimination is already against the law, but now they want it to apply as 'whatever gender each individual perceives themselves to be' .

Is Earnest crazy and stupid for not understanding this ?
OR
Are Kiehl and supporters of this crazy and stupid for even considering the ban on the words. . . 'Mom and Dad' ?

My God, my God. . . what have we done ?

Earnest,

Once again this shows how far down the road we have stumbled... this may not have the support get get through legislation this time around, however, the real danger is that the idea has been hatched. I already see in some answers that the "justification" is rationalized.

I would like to see a stand for traditional and moral values. How about swinging that door the other direction. How about this ban on words threatening traditional people and their lifestyle? Why do some feel the need to cater to such a small fraction of the population? Sure, treat them with respect and allow them to live with all the rights afforded to them in the constitution, but lets stop the "kid gloves" treatment.

And they wonder why kids are becoming more violent and out of control. They are tearing the family value system apart. Political Correctness is choking the life out of this country and we are losing our freedoms one by one in the name of being "appeasing the minority group".

It is very, very sad to see a question and 36 answers from people who have clearly not READ SB777. m b gave the link, and people STILL did not read it. The legislation, if passed, would do NONE of the things set forth in the question. Once again, NONE of those supposedly horrendous rules are contained in SB777. If anyone would actually like to READ the bill before fulminating on the subject (though lack of knowledge does not seem to be a bar to writing either a question or an answer here), here is a link to the bill:

I personally hope that California will soon secede from the United States. I have long given up hope that they will fall into the Pacific.
Anyone who proposed anything like this in Oklahoma would be carried out of the state, tarred and feathered, on a rail. OMG!! Is it possible the San Fransicko madness is CONTAGIOUS!!!!

This country has become way to overly sensitive.
Good Grief!!!!!!!!!

When I was in school, I was called a fat azz on a regular basis because I was chubby. I either did one of two things, of course after getting my little feelings hurt.
A. I kicked their azz
B. Kept my mouth shut, didn't retaliate and learned to deal with it realizing that it was a moron that said it anyway.

The government is becoming way to over bearing. Just one more shining example of how democrats are trying to control all aspects of daily life.

Putting a "ban" on words smacks of censorship, I don't like it. The people you describe are way out of line, I think common sense will win, people aren't that whacked out yet, to accept something as ludicrous as a ban on the words Mom and Dad, are they?

Well, I have heard it all now. This is just ridiculous, I think the State Assembly has more important issues to discuss than that. If my grand parents came back today, they would certainly think they were on another planet.

See: It's not about the rest of the world just "accepting" them. They want the whole damned world to cater to them and their quirky little --I mean, huge issues!

Is there a therapist in the house? Cause now **I** have issues with the possibility of having to share a public restroom with a freaking perverted male who is pretending to be a woman for the day just so he can wander into a female restroom. Can we give the insane of society any more freedom?

Thanks m b for the link, it was interesting reading. However, if you read it closely, it is so ambiguous that I would be hard pressed to see what it WOULDN'T ban.

This, my friends of YA, would be just one of MANY reasons that I moved from the great state of California, and cringe every time I have to go back for a visit.

I live in California and will look into this. I have not heard anything so stupid since the ban on tag in Massachusetts.

Oh my, if this passes it either proves people in California have way to much time on there hands, or they are just not like anyone else in the union.
