I have been here for a year and this move would be a lateral one to another department. I would love this position but absolutely DO NOT wanna mess up my current schedule. I was thinking of telling them I have another job, however If they try to verify I would be screwed! Help!

If you're being offered the other job but you have the option of keeping your current one instead, then you don't need an excuse, can just say "no, I'd rather stay where I am".

If you don't have an option on it, then you'll have to make a decision, whether you want to keep the job or look for another one. If the transfer involves weekend work, they're not likely to change that just for your convenience.

dont lie.
just be honest.
When a boss is aksing to work saturdays, he WANTS somebody to work saturdays. (or any other schedule)
You will not get the job, if you can not fullfill his expectations An excuse will not change it. Boss is not interested in your private schedules.
He will just keep looking for the right people which will have the profile he is looking for.

So for you there are really just 2 options: Change your (private ?) schedule, or keep your current job.

No, don't say you have another job! Tell them you watch a relative's children on weekends or you have some kind of family obligation.

There is no good excuse. Lying will bite you in the @rse sooner or later and it will cost you your job. Honesty is always the best policy. Discuss it with your boss and see if maybe you can work something out, never hurts to try.

You have a sick mother in another city and you take care of her needs on the week-ends.

If it is a Sunday that your boss is wanting you to work, and you attend CHURCH......they can NOT force you to work......that is a LAW!
If you really want this "move", then I think I would change your "current schedule". Sometimes we have to do what we don't want to do, life is that way.
GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS

Tell them that you have to babysit and wont be able to do it.

I would just be honest and tell them that you dont want to do it. They cant fire you for not wating to do it.

It you are honest than you wont have to cover up lies.
