Yahoo! (spelled with an exclamation mark) is short for "Yet Another Hierarchical Officious Oracle". This odd and rather long name was coined in 1994 by two Electrical Engineering PhD candidates at Stanford University: David Filo and Jerry Yang. Today, David and Jerry, who are in their mid-thirties, are billionaires. Neither of them ever went back to finish their PhD studies, but they are both ranked by Forbes as two of the 400 wealthiest men in America.

It is not an abbreviation for some thing, I think.
In English the Noun YAHOO means: A person who is not very intelligent or interested in culture.
2).Yahoo ( pronounced as yaa hoo) means ;A widely used search engine for the web that finds information, news, images, products, finance.
As said by one of our friends it is in Gulliver's Travels.
It means there in the novel: One of a race of brutes resembling men but subject to the Houyhnhnms in a novel by Jonathan Swift, (by the by, Jonathan swift is the writer of The Gulliver's Travels, Please)
