I will go for Nvidia coz with game forums, there is less compatibility issues with nvida hardware. The 7600 card and the x1600 are roughly on par but I still prefer 7600. BTW, the 7600 card is not that flash hot for newer games now. I've got one on my laptop and the performance is just, well I'm not impressed. Go for a higher spec card or wait for the latest Direct X10 cards coming out. Well, if you must then an 8800 card would be better. Are you playing really advanced FPS (eg. Fear or Ghost Recon 3 AWF) or flight simulator X game? They require the best performance video card, otherwise just forget it. But if you just want to play Warhammer or Company of Heroes they will do a good job and be enough for you. Any RTS or RPG will play alright as they're not graphics intensive unlike FPS shooters and flight sims which demand a lot more.

from years of using nvidia and ati cards the difference is very small
nvidia is much better for novice users as it has a much easier control panel and uses unified drivers maning one driver will work with every card(except for the 8 series of cards)
ati have their good points, but the control panel(catylyst control center)is much harder for novices, and the drivers require extra components
i would personally go for the geforce go 7600gt,but remember whatever you decide, you wont be able to upgrade in the future as laptops are impossible to upgrade with graphic adapters
however the 7600gt is a excellent chip,it has pixel and shader model 3.0 and will play all modern games, for a laptop this is a powerful graphics adapter and should cover you in years to come
the ati x1600 also has pixel and shader model 3.0,but as you never said wether the nvidia chip is 128mb or 256mb,if the geforce 7600gt is only 128mb then you may want to think again
the more memory the graphic adapter has,the less stress on the system memory during intensive applications as it dosent have to borrow memory from the virtual memory
top tip:go for the geforce 7600gt,faster frame rates
good luck mate!

i might choose for the Radeon, inspite of what everybody is asserting, those enjoying cards are not too poor, yet they gained't play the maximum modern video games on any decision above 1024x768. If funds is your situation, i might advise paying for a intense end 7 sequence M card, such because of the fact the Nvidia 7950M, which has distinctly plenty an identical specs because of the fact the mid selection 9 sequence enjoying cards, for a fraction of the cost. Getting a sparkling card isn't the suited answer for gaming. My 8800 BFG GTX xXx version nonetheless destroys maximum enjoying cards different than the maximum modern intense end fashions, and SLI/Crossfire setups. foodstuff for theory however, yet once you're adament approximately choosing from in basic terms the above 2 enjoying cards, i might aguably p.c.. the 3470 512M over the Nvidia. Low to Mid selection ATI enjoying cards are via rule of thumb greater effectual high quality and layout than low to mid selection Nvidia enjoying cards. whether intense end Nvidia enjoying cards, generally ruin the intense end ATI ones.

If you want better gameplay capability, get the Go 7600GT. Relative rankings of mobile GPUs here:

Look at the pretty low score of the x1600 in 3D Mark 05 here:

I have been gaming for years and can tell you that NVidia is the way to go. Most companies write their drivers for NVidia and chances are you will have less problems with Nvidia cards than ATI.
Good luck! :)
