As puggy said, Irrational numbers are not rational numbers i.e. they can not be expressed as a / b, where a, b belongs to the set of integers.

Irrational numbers are numbers which *cannot* be expressed in the form a/b, for a, b Є Z (set of integers) and b ≠ 0.
