Yes, if you've got household contents insurance, with an accidental damage cover, then yes you should be able to claim. Give them a call anyway to double check, I wouldn't bother trying to clear it up just leave it as it is, just maybe cover the spillage so it doesn't get trampled through the rest of your house.

Generally even a small amount of paint is difficult, at best, to get out of a carpet. A large amount is almost impossible. Your best bet, when it's wet, it to blot up the excess sitting on top of the carpet with clean dry towels (blot, don't rub!). When you get down to the carpet use a wet towel (not dripping) to blot the paint off the carpet. Of course, this will only work for latex paint.

As far as insurance goes, it will all depend on your specific coverage. In most cases though, the deductible is often more than the cost to replace the carpet. If your carpet is fairly new and you have a remenant around a good carpet installer will be able cut out the damaged area and patch it.

If it was latex, only water and soap. Mineral spirits.....oh my.

Have you tried a professional carpet cleaner yet? Your insurance will be more willing to help if you've had the "pros" have a go at it.

Other option is to cut a patch from an out of the way area, say a closet and exchange the spots......but then you have a closet with a stained carpet....hmmm

That depends on your policy and whether they believe it truly was an accident or whether it looks like it was done to get the carpet replaced.... You should be ok, but depending on your insurance company, you might need to do some talking. Why did you use white spirits?? if acrylic, water would have most likely done the trick... if enamel, turps was the way to go....
Good luck though...

If you have contents insurance plus accidental damage ,you should be able to claim. The same type of thing happened to me 7 years ago, where i spilt thick bleach on my carpet,They sent an accusers out to see the carpet, and to ask questions .And i was paid out in full minus the excess off course .I suggest you ring your insurance ASAP.

Yes, it should be covered by your insurance, read your policy and check, they do normally try to squirm out of paying for anything, but you should be covered.

You would have to check your policy as each one is different, the fact you have tried to clean it may well have removed any chance you had of claiming anyway.
