and I didn't see them for months, they tried to gain eye contact. I tried to be friendly and chat/smile and they averted their eyes (to shut me up) and looked back and continue to gaze in silence. Do you think they were still trying to intimidate overtly with others in the room?

I think this person is dealing with their own feelings of inadequacy.

(Bullies are generally someone trying to prove to the world - but really to themselves - how "powerful" they are.)

You just happen to have become a reflection of and focus for these feelings. The stare is most likely an outward defiant expression for the feelings of being small and weak as well as frustration and bitterness that you didn't bow down before their "greatness".

Let it go. Offer kindness when the opportunity arises and then move on. Just remember, most efforts you make to this person will be misinterpreted until they can get past their own issues.

Keep your confidence going!

Bullies (including spouse abusers) have such low self-esteem that they have to lower other people to raise themselves up.

My advise to you is to keep some distance between you and the bully. Don't ever be alone with this person!!!!

Who cares? Sure, you might not have breaked the habit but your example could degrade the bully and make others stand up.

Leave them to whatever. You don't need them. If they can't respect you then they aren't worth it. It is a proven fact that bullys do it because of their own insecurities.
