My all time favorite book is "The Stand." I have read it about 5 times and I loved it when he published the version of the book that was unedited and so long. It had so many great parts that had been edited out before because the book was so long. I bought a copy for a friend's son who is just now getting into Stephen King. I just thought that the book was brilliant.
The scariest book was "The Shining." The movie with Jack Nicholson was incredible and very scary. The next scary book was "Pet Semetary." I read that while I was in the hospital after I had surgery. It scared the bejesus out of me when the hospital was dark and quiet at night. The movie was more gross than scary. I think they just rushed to make a movie out of it. But the movie was scary.
And last but not least was "It." It was a huge book and sometimes it was hard to follow, but it was a good book. Oh I have to mention "The Talisman" that he co-wrote with Peter Straub. It was very good and the story line was great with humor as well as being scary. I heard that Stephen King would write a chapter and then mail it to Peter Straub and then he would write a chapter and mail it back. They went back and forth and I loved the outcome. It was a great book.
Well, it seems that I can't decide on just one book. Sorry! I hoped I made some sense. I love Stephen King ! He is The King of horror!!!

Rose Red was intriguing, Pet Cemetary chilling, of course there is the all time favorite The Shining, Storm of the Century was original.....How can you pick just one???
I just bought Kingdom Hospital and can't wait.
The only one that didn't hold my attention was The Lawn Mower Man.

The Stand
Tears of the Dragon was good on a fantasy level.
I'm looking forward to the Dark Tower series - some say it is good and some not.
