As with most insects, it's a semi-passive process. They have vents along their thorax which allow air to pass by their lung-equivalents, which exchange CO2 for 02. The air motion is facilitated by the movements of the insect.

All insects have spiracles,They act just like gills on a fish and are located pretty much in the same area as the gills are on a fish.
