Having a high self esteem means you regard yourself having a Positive personality and not easily put off by those who like to knock and belittle others and are not easily fazed if you get my meaning.
Having an *Ego* means you think you know it all, and arrogance goes hand in hand...in other words you think your sh_it doesn't stink..LOL ♥

Self Esteem is a basic confidence in one's abilities and a minimum respect level which one feels one should get from others - be they friends or even family members .
Ego on the other hand is a perception about us being at a certain level in something and that If we do something that will bring us down that level or
a feeling that what someone has said brings us down from that level so we don't like that .
Some Ego may be good for an individual . But too much of it and there is a problem !!!

Self esteem is the soul of ego. Self esteem is how Ego relates to itself. It's ego self- recognition.
Ego = I
Self esteem = Me, My, Mine.
Me is the ego( I ) back up with respect to others: This is me.
My is the ego mediator: This is my stuff.
Mine is the ego border: This is mine.
All these are different forms and shapes the Ego takes under different circumstances, of course, always from the ego view point.
This is THE most sophisticated defence mechanism ever built. Enjoy it!
Good luck!

Self esteem is real whereas ego is unreal.Self esteem is our own true value which we can find only when we are aware of us.Ego is an inflated unreal imaginary worth that one tries to project to others even one is not sure of it.

Self esteem is the esteem one has for oneself based one's achievements and worth. Ego is constantly putting one's self over everything and everyone.

To recognise one's inner power and value it, is self-esteem. Ego is when one misunderstand and misues one's inferior or superior qualities. Self-esteem does not harm anyone but keeps you confident. Ego harm the carrier and others. It portrays over confidence or less confidence. Constantly check your ego and keep the self esteem high. Bingo!

Tough question..... my Star!!
The subtle difference is.... ego makes us look down upon others while self esteem makes us look up to ourselves. This subtle difference is indeed a great difference. In self esteem we compare ourselves with our general idea of the good and desirable... in the case of ego, we compare ourselves with others with a self-biased mind. Self-esteem makes us push ourselves for better. Ego makes us pull down others to feel superior.

Both are because of the image we create about ourselves. While 'self-esteem' is considered good, ego is not.
