I presently stay in NY having green card. My birth place is Bangladesh. I am a graduate but I feel my education is not up to the mark for getting a good job in USA. Yesterday I faced an interview at Barolo Restaurent & get a job. They will offer me $3/ hour & have to work at lest 8 hours a day. My asking is that if I work there as a server, will I get trips/gift from the customers. If get, how much I will get including my 8 hours works. Please advice.

The minimum wage is $5.15 per hour. Paying anything less is a violation of Federal law.

You will have to ask what is their policy on tips. Does the server get all the tips that the customers give? Or are the tips put into a general fund to help dishwashers, cooks, and bus boys also? Many people at a restaurant pay by credit card, where the customer puts the tip on the credit card slip rather than pays it in cash. Can you be sure that the manager will give you all of the money that the customers left on credit card slips?

To get an idea of tips, look at the menu. Consider that there will be three big waves of customers every day: breakfast, lunch, and dinner. In between, there will be few people. What are the prices of some nice breakfasts, lunches, and dinners? A typical tip is 15% of the meal.

You say that you are a "graduate." University? I feel that you should consult with other Bangladeshi's here to find out what to do that is better than a restaurant.
