I met a chap in London the other day who went self employed in 1996. He said "Give me 50 - for a cup of tea".
Seriously, Good Luck. I have been self employed for 15 years and love the flexibility.

High 5!!
I'm finishing Uni in a few months and I plan to be self employed by the time I'm 30. Might have to suck up 7 years in the rat race to earn some cash first, but I'll get there in the end!
What are you going to be doing then hun? Need a secretary? ;-)
xx Emmie

Well done you! I made my own job too--it's harder but you have more peace of mind. If you can handle lowering your lifestyle expectations, peace of mind can't be beat.
And hey, you may have more clients than I do.
More power to you. Cheers to your future!
