I want to plant some grass seeds on my lawn, however, I am unsure of how safe or dangerous it is to my dog. If it is indeed unsafe, how long will it take once I plant that it will become safe for the dog? Keep in mind, I have a german shepherd that WILL eat anything in the yard!

Grass seed shouldn't harm your dog. Animals eat grass so I would say it's okay. However if you put fertilizer down then I would suggest keeping your curious dog in a kennel or keep a good eye on him for a few weeks. Your grass should be up in about 10-14 days.

I purchased a puppy once and it was full of birdseed, had to have an operration to remove the clog in his instestine..at 9 weeks old..so it does happen.I wouldnt think with a full grown dog it would ..but it may..Id try to plant grass and keep the dog away from the area..untill it has been germinated and sprouting..you will need to anyway as to give it time to grow before he digs it up ha ha..It cold take up to 2 weeks I think for seeds to germinate and sprout if waterd really well.Id give it amonth. keeping him away from it all. Good Luck!

now you got the right idea new soil new seeds, and cover with straw. Water every other day Viole you got grass. When you mow the new grass mow the straw along with your new grass. Might be a good idea to make one place in the yard for the dog. Put sand and dirt that his/hers to do as they want. Yea I know you got to clean it up but there worth it.

my dogs are like that lol i have two bullmastiffs and we no longer have grass.

check the packaging to see if it is ok for pets. And if you dont want it beeing eaten (birds will eat it as well) buy a mesh to put over the lawn until the seeds have taken.

Don't worry about the dog. He'll be fine. Forget about the grass though, I doubt if it will do any good. Mine wore a path around the fence area and you couldn't get anything to grow there, he just wore it down. So good luck

planting grass seeds with a dog...?

I would use a rake, the handle makes it easier to control then a dog.

It's more unsafe for the grass seed than for the dog. (I have a GSD too).
