I noticed about three weeks ago it went to 199,999 and stayed there for a while. Then it went on normally into the 200k's like it should have been there. Actually the vehicle has around 170,000 on it. Now it reads 600,000. Any clues?

Now you will have to prove to some one that your milage is actually 170,000 oil change receipt or service repair order then replace the spedo odometer assembly. Sounds like the digit stuck and turned 6th place with 5th place when it turned. Or if you are going to keep the car just ignore the odometer.

I can only say that you should get the vehicles computer scanned and check for any problems as well as codes, I would also have someone check the vehicle speed sensor and the gear that drives the sensor.

I can do now more because it would be helpful to have the year, make and model of your vehicle.

The odometer cable is messed up or there is a loose connection. But damn 600k miles. You got your moneys worth. Thats for sure.
