Well, I am a "good and genuine reader" but sometimes I simply forget that the book I have belongs to someone else! Either that or I just won't have seen them for ages. If they remind me I'm not going to pinch their book! Sometimes it is simply a case of other things on minds :-D

I think that books are just part of the problem. Once people borrow something, they never give it back, its a universal thing. You can't expect people to give things back unless you ask them, so technically, they are not stealing.

its a third class attitude you are talking about books here people return nothin whatever you give them
they consider that perhaps its the father property
and they think that its ther own and the person who give if he want to get and say again and it seem that the owner is beging
its the low people's mentalty and they have no write to get the things if they not return but they get and fully satisfied it seems that they have no conciousness and no voice which awake them they are bastard

I think people just forget in the daily grind of life. I have some DVD's of a few co-workers that I keep forgetting to bring back, and they haven't said a word about them, so it's not a pressing issue and I forget them every time I'm walking about the door
(Plus, my DVD burner doesn't work -- so I'm trying to bide my time!)

Adage - never a lender or borrower be!
I 've lost an entire collection of novels by an author! I can't remember who I've lent it to, much less worry about how to even retrieve it!

Don't do books, but know what you mean. Same thing with pens. I got 50 biros from heaven knows where in my house. But no books.

They don't value books as much as you do, or they forget. I write my name in them before I lend them out, if only to inspire guilt :)
