we say that we are proud to be white, or proud to be british, or when we say that we would like to live in a country that can openly be proud of our nationality. For examply, MOBO awards? if it was MOWO awards there would be an outrage

jay it's nothing like that. everyone should be proud of who they are whether they're black or white. i'm a patriotic white person who loves my country and am proud of who i am. your ethnicity is part of you and you're history so you should embrace it no matter what ethnicity you are.

as for the original question i understand where you're coming from and feel it's just dividing people up even further which is the last thing we need

It's okay to be proud of your heritage, it is racist to look down on people of other color. Openly proud? Well if that is putting others down because your skin is a lighter shade is wrong. Sorry I live in America and I have no Idea what the MOWO award is.

What is MOBO and MOWO awards? Obliviously it hasn't affected my life. You can be proud of your race just don't denied other races to be proud of their. I think everyone should be proud of their race but we live in a white dominated society. What we see and read is more favourably towards being white. Which is a big lie. There is good and bad in every race. As far as I am concern there is nothing for you to be proud of. White folks has fu*k with almost every race on the planet: Blacks, Indians, Asians, Latinos, Middle Eastern. You name it. White folks has fu*ck with them. Whites have everything you want unless you are consider white trash but you are still white. You are not denied a job because of the color of your skin. You can walk around freely and not get harass by the police. You can go shopping and not being watch or accuse of stealing. Whites don't have to speak for their whole race. Whites have white privileges. You can be proud of your race but don't spread hate. I try to have friends of all races including white. I don't if it something that program in us to only be with people that looks like you. I encourage my son to do the same have friends of different nationalities. Being a racist depends on your intention. If you feel you are superior to blacks and other minorities, then you are a racist.

We do over do the political correctness thing in Britain. I think its to do with over compensating for an imperial past.
We could do with a more 'Austin Powers' view of Britain, which would be fun again, and get the Union Jack back from the rightwingers.
One thought about the MOBO awards, its supposed to celebrate music influenced by Black culture. But isn't all pop music heavily influenced by Afro American/British culture?

In my opinion, everyone should be proud of where they come from. Nobody in Britain is proud of their country and it shows, as they don't respect themselves. We moan all the time and put ourselves down, which isn't healthy. We are the worst in Europe for teenage pregnancy and just about everything negative it seems. Our attitude to drink is deeply warped and we treat our elderly like dirt. In contrast, other countries are taught to be proud of their country and themselves. They still have problems, but there isn't much of a sense of community here when things do go wrong.

Never heard of anyone being called a racist when they say that they're proud of being British(proud of where they're from).
White is not a race or anything at all, it's just a skin color that doesn't exist. But some people who's in denial just loves to call them selves white.

Being proud of who you are isn't a crime. If it's at the expense of others, then you're on dodgy territory. And it's fair to say that white people have had it pretty good, unlike blacks who have had to deal with horrendous disadvantages.

Until we are considered equal - i.e. we aren't even having this kind of conversation any more - then there will be a need for us to celebrate our achievements, because nobody else will.

i wouldnt call you racist for being proud of being white or British. Its good to be proud of your origins. And if you want a MOWO awards i personally dont have a problem with it, as long as we can still have our MOBO awards. Mainstream music programmes dont cater to black people's musical needs so we need black music programmes.

I'm white..but for some reason that doesn't make me as proud..I feel more proud to be a mother.......but that's just me...as for the award thing....I'm surprised the Native Americans, Jewish ppl, and others..don't have their own too....Its so depressing to see how some suffered in history and/or now............I guess I would rather say I'm proud to be an American..because I was born here and have children from here....peace.

There's no such pointless thing as being proud of being born somewhere...People should take pride of what they do.Why on earth should I be proud/ashamed of what my ancestors did centuries ago in some given circumstances. My Grandfather was a WWII's hero, does that mean it exempt me from doing something with my life? I'm white, heterosexual and honest I'm neither proud nor ashamed of it,I'm unapologetically myself...
