That depends on what the lie was about to begin with. There are many reasons people lie.
Self Esteem- some lie when their own self esteem is threatened, which also plays into fear of what others may think
Self Protection- sometimes we lie, when we feel somehow threatened
Fear of hurting another
Personal Gain- Some feel that lying is the only option they may have
To Avoid Consequence- sometimes we don't stop as we grow older
To Manipulate- which is also personal gain
Sometimes people lie to themselves because it is easier than accepting the truth
There are many, many reasons people lie

I believe most people graduate into this through life. They learn that most people don't want to know the truth. They want to hear "they look good today" "they look slim" "their husband/wife isn't cheating" think about it. They're not hurtful lies but, little white lies to make their friends, people they like, feel good.

ahhm..lets see...you could actually answer that question by yourself..think about it...I know you already lied a couple of times..its actually normal for people to do that..Ask yourself the same question over and over again..you'll get the answer..
and if you don't or want others opinion here's mine..
To not get in trouble or hurt somebody's feelings or even hurt theirselves but it really actually does and even gets worst after they found out..

Generally to cover up something that they don't want others to know about, because they haven't the guts to own up.Or sometimes it's to make themselves seem interesting.
