I was never hit by my parents unless you count spankings. But, I wouldn't count that, because I don't see anything wrong with it, like the experts say today. I was not abused, just taught right from wrong and it didn't affect me in any negative way. It actually was good for me, as hard headed as I was. I have no emotional issues to this day, and am a very strong person. My boyfriend, on the other hand, claims he was verbally abused and got smacked around, too. We have a son together and we fight all the time about how to raise him. He is mean to him sometimes and I know it is how he was raised, but I refuse to let him get away with it. I wasn't raised that way, and my child isn't going to be, either. I tell hime all the time, how would you like it if you were talked to that way and when he says he was, I say well, you didn't appreciate it, did you?? Think about that!! Granted, my son is just as, if not more, hard headed than I was!!

I was by my father (back in the 60's) he always hit us with the belt buckle, that hurt so much. As I grew up I hated him so much, my parents finally divorced in the early 70's & I went to live with my mom. To this day I hate my father!

Constantly...that's why I left home at an early age. 2 affects:
- I do not associate with my mother
- I refuse to hit my own kids....

I was spanked but never hit. I think spanking is very effective. I didn't get in nearly as much trouble because I knew the consequences. I am against abusive hitting and am sorry for those who have and do endure it. â¥

My Dads' spankings were very effective because they got my attention that I was displeasing him...and what I had done was wrong. Not a bad effect/affect at all. My Moms' using an apple switch just made me want to egg her on more........she was wrong to use that on us. My Dad's spankings were not even a hard one...just enough to wake us up!

i was spanked all the time. not beaten, spanked. i deserved all of it. i was not hit for no reason.
i think it gave me a respect for my parents, rules and consequences for breaking them. alot more than the stupid time outs we use now.
if a kid is disciplined, it is a good tool, if a kid gets the snot knocked out of them--thats a whole different ball game
