What is 'Beltane'?

No... traditions in the culture that I live in are a wee bit different.
In this culture, there is a Full Moon ceremony once a month - the purpose of which is to celebrate woman. Four times a year there are special offerings made which coincide with changing of the seasons. Woman and the earth are linked, both being seen as the 'givers of life'.
Some folks in eastern Canada do celebrate Beltane...I'd not heard of it til I saw your first question... so I asked. My mom told me that some folks celebrated Beltane in our area of Nova Scotia when she was a girl... more to do with decorated trees than bonfires, apparently.

This is a Pagan Festival involving the gods as well as the maypole --- only Pagans celebrate Beltane --- don't they....
