On Saturday afternoon I replaced the black ink cartridge in my HP printer. It printed out the test page and then refused to communicate with my computer. On Sunday morning it printed pages which I had already printed a few days before. I've just tried it again and it's feeling better and cooperating.

The pages were stuck in it's memory. when the printer refuses to communicate. un plug it from the wall for about a minute and this will clear the memory. I have to do that all the time with my HP printer...

Your print jobs are 'spooled' in other words they are queued as files until your printer becomes online. When you put the cartidge in the printer went offline. At some stage it was back online and therefore printer out the queued jobs.

You had old print jobs "in the print que". They're cleared now, that's why your printer works properly again.
