Hi All,
I have an Inspiron 1150 and it looses the power connection every so often. I used to have to wiggle the power cord a little so it would recognize it but that does not work anymore. I first thought it was the AC adopter itself and bought a new one but it did not help. Someone told me that the AC power port (I think this is what it is called) needs to be replaced. I tried to disassemble the machine but it looks to be sealed. Does anyone knows to open the machine without smashing it?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Check on Dell's website for the manual for your specific model.

There are probably a bunch of screws in the base you need to undo... and maybe some under the keyboard / strip along the top of the keyboard. Then the two halves of the case will separate with a bit of fiddling as there are (generally) catches as well as the screws. If it takes a lot of force... you've missed a screw.

Go to the Dell website, under support, and enter the service tag number for your laptop. It will bring up the original configuration for the machine. Click on "manual" and you can either view or download a complete step by step guide for doing almost any repair you need within the PC.

It will show you were the proper screws are to remove to open the case.

The AC port on the Inspirons is soldered to the system board. There is no way to repair or replace the port. You are probably looking at replacing the entire system board.
