It depends on how much money I have, lol, and also how much I enjoy the hobby. For example I recently decided to start a coin collection for my husband. He doesn't have any hobbies or collections and i thought if I started collecting coins for him then he could display them and leave them to our grandchildren when he dies, which I hope is not for a verly long time. At this point I'm not willing to spend very much because we don't know a thing about coin collecting but I am willing to pay for new coins as they come out and that have not been circulated. Now as for hobbies I love scrapbooking and I could break the bank on that one. At the present time I'm dealing with a very low income because I'm disabled and living on a disability check every month (and hubbys paycheck, but my monthly income is half what it was 6 months ago). Still I just joined Club Scrap to get a kit each month of new paper and materials. It's $37.50 a month. I think the most I've paid at one time on things for Scrapbooking is maybe $250 but it's a hobby I could put money out for all the time. New things are constantly coming out and I love it all.

Oh Gawd !! I'm a model-builder and model-railroader !!
My Hobby can be rather expensive... when buying the RIGHT materials or tools. I've spent $200 for a new spare airbrush... $500 for Digital Command Control for my railroad.
BUT, I also enjoy seeking out bargains, waiting for sales, and even "dumpster-diving" for some stuff !!
I love to go to hobby-conventions to find out of stock models or discounted models. I built MOST of my Railroad's framework and land-scaping from wood and foam scraps obtained thru dumpsters or contractors I know.
Fortunately, I sell many models and build on commission... so it almost pays for my addiction (I mean HOBBY) !!

depends on what it was and i suppose on who for , i love cross stitch and have just finished one of two eagles one in flight and one in the nest, just for the threads and Aida it cost me 160 euro and then to get it frames was 120 euro, but it was for my dad and worth every penny , but some people have hobbies that will cost them thousands and thousands , so mine is a cheap hobbie compared to others but i still love it.

i look at it like an investment and spend according to the value i believe the item is worth..unless it is a rare example (an origional unique fly trap) then i might spend what the value is expected to be years from now.
