Every single item!!! You know where I work Clo, I have seen some yucky things And the vendors that I deal with will do anything to try and sell outdated items. I even know how to read Julian codes which are indecipherable to those who have not been trained. Freshness is important to me in my food, And I will continue to check all dates every time.

I always look, been burnt too many times. What I DON"T do is dig all the way to the back to pull out the freshest stuff, that's anul. I look at the date, and if I think I'll use it before expiration I keep it, if not I'll check for another date.
Side note: I was at a Casey's gas station the other day getting my daughter a chocolate milk. This was April 22 and they had chocolate milk expired in January! Glad I checked!

I myself do check the dates. MORE so with dairy products. As a kid growing up there wasn't ANY expiration dates on anything. I remember in the Corps there were NO expiration dates on the C-rats. (today is MRI'S or something like that. But either way NO expiration dates. Now there are dates on everything and IF something expires I wouldn't eat or drink it. With all the additives they put in things you would most likely get sick.

Yes I look ALL the time.
I for once didn't look because it was a can of soup (just yesterday) and ended up throwing it out, because as I was stirring I wondered why it was chunky--it was cream of mushroom soup--and looked on the can and it had expired in 2006!! Yuck.
I also didn't look today, and put parmasan cheese on my pasta THEN saw it expired...luckily the date was only like two days ago so I was ok to eat it.
I can't normally stand food thats been in my house for more than a month, unless its canned food & what not.

Yes always,I don't want food poisioning.
I sometimes shop at a store that sells out-dated products. If it's not too out-dated I will buy it depending on what it is and how far out-dated it is.
Meat can be out-dated and if it's been kept frozen it is still safe to eat if it's used within a month.

i'm like that one demanding-to-acquire merchandise that the food market keeps less than his counter for a particular shopper. i don't have an expiration date yet i wish now to not be left on that shelf for too lengthy.

Especially Cheese. I live in a city with 30 million lactose-intolerant Chinese and the cheese tends to lay on the shelf for awhile.

Most of the time, especially dairy products like milk, yogurt, cottage cheese. I also look at the expiration of meats like ground meat, chicken, hot dogs and lunch-meat.
