See,when you draw a horoscope depicting the 12 houses in the circular belt of space known as the zodiac,the ascendant or the first house is shown at the Eastern horizon,the meridian or the tenth house is shown at the Southern horizon, the descendant or the 7th house is shown at the western horizon and the nadir or the fourth house is shown at the Northern horizon.Thus in the scheme of astrology the 7th house is situated opposite the first house.In the natural zodiac the first house is represented by the first sign Aries.Thus the opposite of Aries will be the seventh sign Libra.Hope i have conveyed properly.

how would you know it's an opposite?? first of all, opposite signs must be the same quality. in that case cardinal. they must also be differant elements..however these elements must be masculine..in this case FIRE and AIR...
libra is cardinal+air...aries is cardinal+fire.
aquarius cannot be it because it's fixed (opposite=leo)..aries is not it because it's "conjunced" (same sign).
virgo cannot be it because it's a feminine(earth) and mutable sign.
i've studied astrology (by myself) for about 3 years.. and i have as much knowlage as my mom's friend (an astrologer) that went to collage for it.
