I think some people can. At one point my fiance and I thought we might have to only live together because of some problems that arose for both of us. I didnt really care that much, I mean we both wanted to get married but the important thing was being together and we would have spent the rest of our lives only living together if we had to. Fortunately for us the problems worked themselves out and we're getting married this summer. However, like I said not everyone needs the "paper" to be happy, so just do what is best for the 2 of you.

Yes the institution of marriage is man made and is definitely not perfect.
People could just co-exist, then who takes the responsibility for the baby ? The man may just walk out, as they are very irresponsibly, so society has imposed marriage to put some responsibility on the man, and maybe also on the woman. this way children also get a good deal and a healthy atmosphere.

The institution of Marriage was probably invented by Man on account of the need of the day. The one man-one wife concept was also thought by the early man for the sake of giving permanence and respectability for such a union. But in recent days, when education and economic independance, especially for the women have transformed them in all sphears, the old shackles are broken loose. Therefore the new idea of living togather without a marriage has already taken root. In fact in many countries it is also perfectly legal. But legality apart, whether such doings are good for the society is some thing time only will tell. In my view, all these will only degrade women in the long run, especially in a country like India, where women are traditionally held high in respect.

This question is a perfect example:

MARRIAGE is treated with way to much disrespect and that's what caused DIVORCE soaring across the country and also what caused BABIES AND CHILDREN screaming across the country.

Now that's how they were raised. That's all they know about relationships and marriage, so then they grow up to do the same thing to their children. Now it spread beyond hope, because now one idiot has 10 children spread all over the country! Who was stupider than that, to let some idiot get just stop by and get them pregnant? Yes, THE WOMAN!

If marriage was respected like it was at one time, with two people falling in love, getting married, becoming parents and happily raising their family for the next generation to do the same, then the world would be a perfect place.

There is certainly no hope there.

Just think of the opposite situation to realise why marriage is important. You co-exist without marriage and when a child is born, who will claim him/her as own and who will nurture the child? To have a measure of accountability and to be responsible and sensible about a lot of things, marriage is a must. Marriage provides stability, at least to a considerable extent. Otherwise, one will waste half of the life trying to woo and win the partner for co-existence. When you fall ill, your expect your spouse to look after you rather that your neighbour.Marriage is a bondage which is required of a two-footed animal, that is, man.

Lots of people don't get married. I reckon thats becoming more common in Britain than marriage. Been with my bloke for nearly nine years (living in sin, lol) and we are both faithful, loving and considerate.
You will probably just get loads of religion answers from this question, saying that it is God's way....

The person who says it is difficult to buy a house? Where did you get your info?!! Me and my partner are buying a house. People can get joint accounts, etc. If you were worried about legalities then going to see a solicitor would be the best option....and cheaper than a wedding.
Theres nothing wrong in being married or not married...its choice.

As I explained in my previous response, the problem lies with the relationship.

Some people can't manage to live together in peace and harmony - whether they're married or just shacking-up together!

They simply lack the sense of compromise, sympathy, forgiveness and patience to get along with another human being.

There's too much "me" and not enough "we."

A healthy relationship does provide for "personal space," but mostly, it's about two people becoming partners...team mates.

Once you have a stable, strong relationship started, marriage is a minor detail.

Anyone who runs in fear from the word "marriage" has other related personal issues stemming from committment.

Others go on about the Bible, well, I am still questioning the theory that the Bible tells us to have a marriage certificate in order to be married. Having a ceremony yes, committing yourself to your partner yes, but why that peice of paper, because the government says thats the only legal way to be married. I am living in a common law union, we have made our relationship known, we have created a child together, we have done everything except get legally married. Things are good this way, in my opinion.

Yes it's Possible. BUT as u say it is 'MAN MADE Institution' Institutions are made for good.

U may think what good it can do? Many things it contains in which some things are beyond our thoughts and some r with in our thoughts.

With in our thoughts is it prevents from most STD's.

Beyond our thoughts it's here-

U know no body likes his girl with another man(including animals don't like and fight for this issue). Or his man with other girl. If they r not bounded by rules then they will be free and move with any body they like. This may cause anger to another partner and lead to crime i.e. he/she may kill his/her partner or partner's like or both.

There r many gates to crime with this that u cant imagine.

U can't get what I am trying to tell if u r not a kind of person as in above para.

But it's true that MOST person get jealous when others are with their most liking person.

Best e.g. is Let Mr. X love some girl and she don't love Mr. X, and likes another, and then Mr. X may torture her to love him. Even some men torture a married girl also to love them.

Think if law of marriage is not there then. It was tough to handle these cases.

Definitely marriage is man made institution & people do co-exist without marriage too. The only difference between the two are where as the institution of marriage is only recognized legally, morally & socially in India the second form of living in/cohabiting couples/domestic partners concept is recognized in some western countries along with the institution of marriage. In countries like India the institution of marriage gives you legal rights such as right of inheritance, maintenance, insurance claim, bearing legitimate children along with other matrimonial claims as provided under ones religious or civil matrimonial enactment, but as live in /cohabiting couples/domestic partners do not enjoy any such legal rights in India. If any one wants to forego such legal rights & want to live as cohabiting couple then its his or her out look there is no law of the country stopping them for such, only thing is the moral & social recognition that they won't get, but rather they may get rebuked by certain religious, political & social institutions for their such action, for which they definitely approach the legal institutions such as police for personal physical protection or make complaint against the assault & physical hurt they suffered from these religious, political or social institutions & its members. Best of luck.
