Yes. That's a beautiful book. The author seems to be really brilliant, for having written such a touching story. I really love Bruno and Shmuel's characters. The childish innocence has been potrayed beautifully. I'm not ashamed to say I cried at the end.
I don't like Leutinent Kurt. He's nasty mean.

I loved the book, though like you thought the ending was a bit emotional. Having said that, I think it was trying to prove a moral point rather than anything else. This Nazi soldier was murdering innocent people and didn't think twice about the children he was sending to the gas chamber, but how were these children any different from his own children?

If you liked the style of writing I would reccomend 'The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time' by Mark Haddon. Though a completely different book, is also quite emotional and the writing style is identical.

I read this book and thought it was really good, bringing home the fact that the children of Nazi officers were extremely gullible and innocent, just like alot of ordinary German people, and thought the ending was very sad, but proved the point that the father was so egotistical that he thought his diabolical career doing Hitlers commands would not affect his family, which, on a lesser scale, alot of fathers assume the same.

This style of writing, as seen through the eyes of a child, was like a breath of fresh air, and very different. I will be checking out the other book mentioned by someone else to this question.

I have been wanting to get this book for so long since I read its review and summary plot and now your review here makes it even more "must-get" kind of book. I love books that makes me cry.

It's on my list of books to get, but haven't got round to buying it yet. I'm glad to hear a good review of it though!
