I'd give notice asap! An employer needs some time to find a replacement for any employee, and the norm used to be to give them a 2 week notice. In cases where the job requires special requirements or training, it's a good idea to give proper notice, dependent upon how difficult it will be for the employer to replace you.

I've given employers as much as 45 days notice, in order to give them time to replace me, and for me to help break in my replacement if necessary.

Since you already have another job lined up, and can't give your employer more notice, do it asap. And in the future, asap earlier when possible. Your employers will appreciate it and give you a better recommendation in the future, if you treat them with common respect.

Best of luck.

Depending how long you have worked at your current employer, 1 to 2 weeks notice is proper

Never make enemies of an employer. You never know when you may need their reference. They may even know someone that you will run into later on in life.

The rule is--"Never burn the bridges behind you. You may need to come back one day."
