5 + 5 does equal 10.
Youngsters on a computer most, do not know of the SHIFT button. Most likely will just type 55.
Or they may try 5 x 5 = 25.

I know of many children around or under the age of 6 who would have a problem with 5 + 5.

Also a person who knows only hieroglyphic notation would not recognize "5 + 5".
