I got a job offer for a programming job in Sydney, Australia. The pay is 75K a year.
I've been told that this amounts to 4300 dollars per month after tax.
Is this a good offer for Australian standards? Will I be able to live a comfortable life and save a little bit each month?

As it might affect the answers... I'm planning to rely on public transportation for a long while

I'm not asking if its enough for a mansion and a bmw, i'm asking if its enough for a nice apartment, bus pass and a party lifestyle.

By the way i'm 23 years old. 5 years working experience as a ERP Consultant (Navision).

I think that the salary is more than ample. Currently my father rents a beautiful one bedroom property for $300 a week which is really close to the city so based upon your salary That leaves $3100 for other expenses.
If you want a mobile phone, you can get a great monthly plan for $50 a month and travelling would be easy and affordable. I have attached the links for the public transport system so you can see for yourself.
The cost of food is fine too, I have also attached the online grocery retailers so you can check out the cost of food. You will find that the online price is a little higher to what you will get at your local supermarket. Also in Sydney you have fresh fruit and vegetable markets and seafood markets which are cheaper still.
I really think that you could live quite comfortably on this salary and still have enough to party as well.
Enjoy your trip over.

Curl up on sun-drenched beaches, eat at award-winning restaurants and far more is what you will get on your visit to Sydney. Learn more with hotelbye . One of the world's good icons and a certainly should see in Sydney could be the Sydney Opera House, a place is just a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the star interest on the glittering harbour. This elegant building, shaped like covers or billowing sails, perches on a hand of land surrounded by water. Sydney is really a special place to spend your vacation therefore, do not lose the chance to see a good city.

Maybe. If you are prepared to live further out of the city and commute and if you don't have a family in the city to support and if it is part of a permanent salary package then its OK. You should be able to live and save somewhat.

Otherwise, its not a great contract rate, depending on how experienced you are.

Sydney is incredibly expensive to live in. Not just rent, but food costs are spiraling out of control, petrol prices change daily and are currently approx A$1.30/lt.. Cars are not cheap and incur stamp duty. Many roads have tolls. Bureaucracy is rampant and fees and miscellaneous taxes are charged on anything and everything. On the plus side, if you qualify as a permanent resident you will get a Medicare card which rebates about 60% of all medical bills.

If you are looking for the Party lifestyle you want to live in the city - be prepared to share an apartment with others, but it will be worth it to live so close to the city. A good night out in Sydney will cost you about $100, a good dinner out about $60 a head (in the city) a cheap dinner probably about $20 a head. I would probably budget $700 a month on your party lifestyle. Groceries will probably cost you about $50-$70 a week, depending on how much you are willing to cook for yourself. Unlike a lot of other countries, Australian fresh food is MUCH cheaper than buying take out, and you are not charged GST on fresh food to promote healthy eating. If you would like to get an estimate on apartments www.gumtee.com.au is a great place to start.

I think it will be more than enough money. I dont think you will save much money, but i do think oyu will have to party lifestyle that you are looking for!

Have fun!

With $1050 a week in Sydney you are laughing, you can pay rent, party, whatever and save. Better to live out west of the city a bit and just go to city whenever by train, for work and so forth it's cheap on a weekly ticket. The only people who can't afford to live in sydney are people addicted to something, like drugs gambling or sex. Just keep away from poker machines as they will suck you dry and then you will have to collect welfare for being homeless

Lifestyle expands to absorb the cash available. $75k will give you a comfortable life with room for a few discretionary items. It will not give you harbour views and a BMW.

I've been to Sydney and it is expensive! However, 4000 per month is quite decent, provided ur not a big spender.
