The priest-penitent or clergy privilege of confidentiality is one of the hallmarks of the English and American judicial systems. It is a right owned by the penitent.

I have been unable to find whether this has been incorporated into Japanese law.

Priests are not required by the church to keep things confidential. A priest may, at any time, at their own discretion, come forward and speak openly of your discussions.

The confidentiality that you're referring to applies only to the confessional as it is considered a sacred ritual. Even what you say in the confessional is not protected because again, a priest can come forward and state what they know. While it would be wholly unethical and not in line with view of the church, there is nothing to prevent them from disclosure.

This would hold true worldwide as the church acts universally, even reading the same scripture around the world on the same day in every country. They plan it out like a menu.

Since you don't know this it would appear you are not even Catholic and if you tried to use the confessional to hide something, the fact that you are not Catholic or not well-versed in Canon Law would be exploited on cross examination.

It IS a us law covered by standards of confidentiality; but our law is not Japan's law. Because it is a religious act, I doubt a priest WOULD violate the sanctuary of the confessional under penalty of law.

I'd still check with an atty there before I said anything thant might incriminate me to anyone.
