Jesus said, "Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:18-20)

The Catholic Church has been teaching world governments what it believes is right and wrong since the ancient Romans stopped persecuting it and long before anyone heard of the freedom of speech.

The Catholic Church protested about the blood sports in the Roman Colosseum and they were stopped.

The Catholic Church supported Solidarity and the Soviet Union fell apart.

I don't think the Church is going to (or should) stop teaching the world governments what is right or wrong now.

Remember the Catholic Church proposes. It does not impose.

With love in Christ.

Has there ever been any pros for Catholic intervention in government? The middle ages and the inquisitions would point to "no". The modern world would point to "no", unless you are inherently pro life. The mess in Ireland is heart breaking. I am not anti Catholic, I just do not think that a Catholic influenced government is something that would make me feel safe.

*Is Catholic*

The benefits of Catholic involvement in politics is first that it respects the rights of Catholics to be involved in the politics of their nation.

Catholics are instructed by the Church to be model citizens in each country that they are in. They are to uphold the civil laws and work for the good of all peoples.

Catholic morality is also a benefit to society for it helps to bring the society into a closer relationship with God. It brings justice to the society. In many countries, it is only the Catholic Bishops who are speaking out for the poor and the oppressed, those that the government of those nations would rather see dead.

Consider each country in the world and how civil and just it is. Then compare this to both the the amount of freedom Catholics have to be Catholic and to engage in political life.
