There are a few ways you can find out the value of your card with out costing a lot:
Purchase a price magazine and see what they list it for, try Beckett's Price Guide or Tuff Stuff magazine.
Search on Ebay and see what others are asking and getting for similar cards
Visit a card show to see what some dealers are selling the card for. Remember a dealer is looking to make profit and will mark up a card if the player(s) is on a local major league team and/or is a very popular player.
Also when comparing value, a card might be valuable in your opinion versus someone else, who is right and who isn't that is where the fun is when discussing prices and trading cards. Be smart and do some research before trading/selling a card to make sure you are comfortable when making the deal.

Well you can go to shop where they sell baseball cards exclusively and the owner or whoever works there can tell you. . .plus, find someone you can trust

Get a Beckett's magazine. You can find them in your local trading card store, or perhaps beckett's.com.
